Anti-Vibration Mounts for Compressors and Generators – Selection Guide & Supply

Choosing anti-vibration mounts for compressors and generators comes down to four inputs: equipment weight, running speed (RPM), number of mounting points, and where the machine is installed. Get them right and floor vibration, noise and “walking” drop sharply. Get them wrong and a mount can amplify vibration instead of absorbing it. This guide shows how to pick the right mount for DG sets and air compressors, from rubber-in-shear to spring and restrained types. Sealing Tech supplies these mounts and sizes them to your equipment, so you get a specification rather than a guess.

Five Installation Mistakes That Make Good Mounts Fail

    1. Mixing mounts of different stiffness under one machine, which loads them unevenly.
    2. Connecting rigid pipes, ducts or conduit, which carry vibration around the mounts. Use flexible connectors.
    3. Dividing weight equally when one end of the machine is heavier.
    4. Using the wrong rubber compound for oil exposure or heat.
    5. Skipping levelling shims or restraints on rooftop and outdoor installs.

How to Size Anti-Vibration Mounts for Compressors and Generators

  1. Find the load per mounting point. Don’t divide the weight equally. Engine ends and motor ends are heavier.
  2. Convert RPM to frequency. Disturbing frequency (Hz) = RPM ÷ 60. A 1500 RPM DG set disturbs at 25 Hz.
  3. Keep the mount’s natural frequency well below that. As a rule of thumb, aim for about one-third or less. For 25 Hz, that means roughly 8 Hz or lower.
  4. Check the deflection. About 4–10 mm of static deflection under load gives roughly 5–8 Hz.

These are rule-of-thumb values. We confirm the final selection against your actual weight, RPM and layout.

Types of Anti-Vibration Mounts for Compressors and Generators

  • Rubber-in-Shear Mounts: cost-effective for small and mid-size machines, with good noise reduction.
  • Spring Isolators: needed when the natural frequency must be very low, as with large or slow engines.
  • Combination Spring-Rubber Mounts: handle start-up shock and add high-frequency damping.
  • Restrained Spring Mounts: hold rooftop and outdoor DG sets in place against wind load.
  • Oil-Resistant Rubber Mounts: suit compressor rooms with oil mist or high temperature.
  • Custom Mount Sets: matched to non-standard footprints and uneven weight distribution.

FAQ — Anti-Vibration Mounts for Compressors and Generator

A: Yes. Without them, engine vibration travels through the floor and structure as noise and can crack foundations over time.

A: Yes, if the mount is designed for it and allows limited controlled movement. A rigid bolt-down to the floor defeats the isolation.

A: Usually one per mounting point, four or more for most machines. The count and ratings depend on weight distribution.

A: Use correctly rated mounts, with levelling or restraint where needed, and flexible pipe connections.

A: Yes. Send weight, RPM and layout and we’ll recommend the mount.
